EDEN
Embellishment can be used to create unevenly textured surfaces which can create an overall earthy effect. The texture and surface interest is created by layering different kinds of embellishment, sequins over embroidery, studs over stitches, beading on top of printing on top of fabric manipulation. All of this texture re-creates common themes we see all the time in nature, tree bark, flowers and other vegetation, stones, mountains, and the ground we walk on. Also, insect and floral motifs created using the different embellishment techniques and embedded within the design will bring the spring element into the existing earthy effect.

ATLANTIS
The underwater architectural marvel of Atlantis combines very strong sea motifs with Grecian architectural elements and of course the underwater and Grecian color schemes combine to create a color scheme all of it’s own. The motifs of shells can done in actual shell, or images of shells done in embroidery, other motifs are done in studding, beading printing, and many other forms of embellishment. These motifs can be literally portrayed or abstracted, and the color schemes and other elements combine with them to convey this mood strongly or subtly. The architectural elements are primarily recreated by the use of fabric manipulation or seam placement.

POETRY IN MOTION
The use of fabric manipulation is a great tool for creating texture, but also, is a wonderful way to create movement within a garment. Heavily or lightly draped fabrics create large folds for a very Grecian and Romantic feel, or soft folds can be used for a more subtle designs, and the movement created gives the wearer the illusion of grace and curves. Movement can also be added to an otherwise stiff garment but the addition of embellishments that will add movement, such as trims or strings of beads that are tacked on partially, but allowed to flow freely in places.

ROCKSTAR
Beads are a form of embellishment that provide interest in the form of shine, sparkle and light. A colorful pattern created with beads gives the interest of the colors and pattern along with the subtle appeal of the changes that occur with light and movement. A more subtle interest can be created by the use of beading that is the same color of the fabric they are applied to, as the business of the additional colors are not there, but a subtle pattern that reflects and flourishes with the movement of the garment. Studs have a traditional association with hard edged “rock star” styles. They can be added to a design to add the element of rock and roll while also contributing texture and surface interest to the design.
